Aconteceu nesta segunda (17) em Los Angeles, a edição de 70 anos do Emmy Awards, o Oscar da TV, comandada este ano por Colin Jost e Michael Che, do Saturday Night Live. A cerimônia começou com um incrível número musical, reunindo Kristen Bell, Tituss Burgess, Sterling K. Brown e Rick Martin.
O Emmy 2018 foi uma bela surpresa em relação aos vencedores. A Netflix, líder de indicações, conseguiu duas estatuetas para Godless, e duas para The Crown, consagrando Claire Foy como melhor atriz de série dramática. O inesperado ficou por conta de Regina King ganhar (nem a própria atriz acreditou na hora) como melhor atriz de minissérie por Seven Seconds, cancelada pela gigante de streaming. A academia continuou a noite premiando The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, The Americans, Westworld, The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story em categorias importantes, e Game of Thrones que saiu com o grande prêmio de melhor série dramática. The Handmaid’s Tale e Atlanta foram as esnobadas do ano, saindo apenas com uma estatueta, cada.
O programa deste ano mostrou uma grande diversidade de indicados e apresentadores, mas assim que as estatuetas começaram a ser entregues para uma sequência de vencedores brancos, a hashtag #Emmysowhite quase viralizou nos trending topics. Os apresentadores souberam lidar com a situação fazendo piadas ao vivo e levando o show de forma bastante descontraída. Colin Jost e Michael Che fizeram um bom trabalho, mas nada memorável. Os discursos desta edição também não surpreenderam muito, tudo bastante contido. No geral, o resultado dos vencedores foi equilibrado, mas na verdade, a edição de 70 anos poderá muito bem ficar lembrada pelo pedido de casamento que Glenn Weiss fez, ao vencer o prêmio de melhor direção em especial de variedades, para a sua namorada.
